Service in a Recognized Cadet Corps
Officers
Applicants who hold an appointment from a Recognized Cadet Corps (RCC) (Civil Air Patrol or Naval Sea Cadet Corps) and who wish to either dual-enroll with the USAC or transfer their affiliation to the USAC may be granted advanced rank, based on military or Cadetting experience and formal military or civilian education, as well as their potential assignment within the USAC. This will be based on the applicant’s scope of military knowledge and youth development experience based on interview criteria, as well as a thorough review of the officer’s service record from the RCC. It is only under the rarest of circumstances that an applicant from a RCC will be initially promoted above the grade of
CPT/O-3, and that only occurs when assigned duties at the brigade or HQ, USAC level. Under no circumstances will an applicant be transitioned from a Recognized Cadet Corps to the USAC in the grade of O-6 or above.
Officers transitioning from a RCC will be provided a written agreement which outlines the criteria they must meet to be eligible for promotion. Officers transitioning from a RCC will normally not be eligible for promotion until completion of two years of service in the USAC. Only the CG, USAC can approve the initial rank to which an applicant may be appointed.
Cadets
Cadets who have previous experience in a Recognized Cadet Corps and have attended a seven-day or longer summer training program, may be eligible to bypass BCT and attend the one-week Cadet Transition Course (
CTC).
CTC
is an abbreviated Basic Cadet Training program which provides initial training to permit integration of the Cadet to the USAC’s heritage, culture and military standards. All participants in
CTC will attend without rank, as recruits. To graduate from
CTC, a recruit must pass the End of Course Test (ECT), and the Army Cadet Physical Fitness Test (ACPFT) for the grade for which they are eligible. Graduates of
CTC, who meet all appointment criteria, will normally graduate at an advanced grade. Each graduating
CTC Cadet will be reviewed for initial appointment based on motivation, leadership, physical fitness and other factors. Those who are deficient may receive an initial appointment at a lower grade. Those who are superior may receive an initial appointment at a higher grade. Graduates of
CTC will transition to
BLC. Failure to pass all criteria for graduation from
CTC will result in transition from
CTC to BCT and ineligibility for advanced initial appointment.
Applicants for CTC must have 18 months of service in a Recognized Cadet Corps and have completed a minimum of seven consecutive days of recruit or basic type training.
